A Fun Look at Real World Assets: The Project Scout
In my last two pieces, I talked about RWAs (Real World Assets), their real-life examples, and their pros and cons.
In my last two pieces, I talked about RWAs (Real World Assets), their real-life examples, and their pros and cons.
The RWA concept, while it gives access to many different but somewhat traditional and, let’s be honest, boring investment tools like real estate, art, bonds, and securities, can also include much more unusual and fun investment vehicles. This week, I want to dive into one of those unusual examples.
The Project Scout
I’m not just saying this because I’m involved, but if you ask me, it’s one of the most fun RWA projects in the ecosystem, maybe even the most fun.
The Project Scout is basically a project that plans to tokenize the transfer revenues of football players. You can think of it as a digital version of a real-world management operation. It allows individuals to become part of the transfer contracts of young and promising football players.
Readers who are into football might remember Arda Güler. But for those who don’t know, here’s a quick recap:
Between 2014 and 2019, Arda Güler played in various youth categories for Gençlerbirliği. On February 20, 2019, he transferred to Fenerbahçe’s youth team for 28,000 Euros. After the 2023 season, his name was linked with many clubs, and on July 6, 2023, he transferred to Real Madrid for 30 million Euros.
The Project Scout aims to find exactly these kinds of young and undiscovered talented players, get involved in their transfer contracts, and tokenize these contracts on the blockchain as RWAs.
To explain this with an example: A football player involved in a $300K contract will be listed on the platform through a process we call IBO (Initial Baller Offering). If this player is divided into 100 shares, investors can buy into the contract for $3000; if divided into 1000 shares, for $300. When the player makes their next transfer, the increase in the transfer fee will be reflected in your wallet according to how many shares you own.
(I can tell you’re now calculating, “How much would I have made if I’d invested in Arda Güler back in 2019?”)
The team bringing this project to life includes our CEO Metin Ertuğrul, CTO Ekin Koç, CLO Gürkan Özocak, Chief Scout Serhat Pekmezci, who also managed the Arda Güler transfer I mentioned, us from the Altcointurk team, and our invaluable advisors Bertuğ Oymak and Altuğ Öztürk.
The project aims to open up the football transfer market, which until now hasn’t been accessible to individual participation but is massive worldwide, to more people; to make this economy more transparent and accessible on the blockchain.
