The On-Chain Economy: Income, Credit, and Production

I've been talking about stablecoins and how they're reshaping the new financial infrastructure. This week, let's look at how this infrastructure is starting to be used in the real world.

I’ve been talking about stablecoins and how they’re reshaping the new financial infrastructure. This week, let’s look at how this infrastructure is starting to be used in the real world.

Stablecoins are no longer just digital money. The DeFi (Decentralized Finance) ecosystem, developed by the blockchain world with inspiration from traditional finance but centered around decentralization, is finding its place in the real world through stablecoins.

Stablecoins are becoming the technological layer behind generating income, providing credit, and financing production. So it’s not just about “money transfer” anymore, but the infrastructure behind the money.

🪙 From Income to Finance
Stablecoin-based systems are making the long-discussed goal of “more accessible finance” possible through technology. While in the past, only banks or large investors could distribute credit, now on-chain fund pools are taking on this role.

Goldfinch is a great example here. The platform allows investors to pool their funds in stablecoins (like USDC). These funds are then used as loans to real businesses through microfinance institutions in Africa and Asia. Repayments are also made in stablecoins, but the system’s impact is felt off-chain, in the everyday economy.

In short, blockchain is moving from being just a “money transfer” or “infrastructure” layer to becoming a software infrastructure that enables income flow.

🔐 The Digitalization of Collateral
In the real economy, one of the biggest problems for small businesses is finding assets to use as collateral to maintain cash flow. Often, the value they have, like invoices, receivables, or inventory, isn’t digitally recorded. This makes accessing finance difficult.

Platforms like Centrifuge and Credix are digitizing this process on the blockchain. In these systems, a business can turn an approved invoice or receivable into digital collateral. This way, they can obtain loans in stablecoins from on-chain liquidity pools.

This approach turns the concept of collateral from “a document” into a data object. So now, the credit system runs on stablecoin infrastructure not just with files, but with code.

⚙️ The First Steps of On-Chain Production
The same transformation is starting on the production side too. There are already projects testing stablecoin infrastructures in agriculture, supply chains, and foreign trade.

The Centrifuge ecosystem is expanding to include financing processes on the production and supply chain side. Companies tokenize their receivables from the production process on-chain, gaining both transparency and liquidity. Since this data is stored on the blockchain, the investors providing finance can see every step of the process.

This model might seem small, but its direction is significant:

Decentralized finance is no longer outside of trade; it’s integrating into it.

💡 Why It Matters?

Today, the scale of these systems is still limited, but their impact is growing. Blockchain is becoming not just a technology, but a complete digital business infrastructure spanning from income to production.

Stablecoins are evolving from a tool within finance to a fundamental building block of the digital economy. And this time, it’s not about “investment opportunity”; it’s about how the business world becomes more accessible, faster, and more transparent.

🔁 Next Step
The spread of these systems depends on how trust is established. In the next article, we’ll return to the heart of this question: “Can code truly replace trust?”
